30km Challenge over Mt Best

  • 30km Challenge ($40 online entry / $45 on the day) - amazing course! Mainly undulating to hilly, 16km on bitumen and 14km on gravel road terrain. A great test of strength and endurance. Panoramic views and stunning countryside!
  • 6km Run ($10 under 20yo / $15 adult entry) through historic Toora and surrounds on bitumen and gravel
  • 6km Walk for Fun ($5 entry) around Toora on the same route.

Start times

The 30km run will commence at 9.00am and the 6km run will commence at 9.30am. There will be a runners briefing at 8.45am for all runners in the 30km challenge and 9.25am for the 6km run. Registration and pickup of numbers will commence at 7.30am for both the 30km run and 6km run. Registration will close prior to commence ment of the respective briefing. If registering on the day please be early to avoid a last minute rush.

Competitor drinks

There are five water stops on the 30km course and one on the 6km course. If you wish to provide your own individual drinks, clearly label the container. It must be lodged before 8.30am in the Toora hall, so that they can be ferried out to drink stations on the course. Should you have questions regarding accessing your drinks during the run, please direct them to the registration volunteers at the registration desk on race morning.

Event presentations

Presentation of winners, place getters and random prize winners will be conducted for the 6km run at 11.30am at the start/finish line (weather permitting). The presentation for the 30km run, will be conducted at 12.30pm in the hall, even if there are still entrants completing the course.

Pasta night and food

A traditional pasta night will be held on the Saturday night at the Windmill Café. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 03 5686 2417. Unfortunately, there will be no meals available at the Windmill Café for those who do not book. The Windmill Café will also be open for breakfast and lunch or just coffee, on the race day.

The Toora Hall Committee is providing hot soup on the day and the RSL will conduct a sausage sizzle. The Royal Standard Hotel (Toora) provides excellent meals and welcomes all competitors and supporters of the Prom Country Challenge. Bookings are advisable on 03 5686 2475 as it is very popular. Toora also boasts an excellent Chinese takeaway, Barb's Place (specialises in home style food) and a Pizza shop.

Free massages for competitors!

Also available on the day are free massages for competitors in the hall. Please register your time on the board provided. Showers will be available at the Toora Tourist Park for a small charge.

Accommodation in Prom Country

In terms of accommodation, Toora boasts both a great Tourist Park and a great Motel. There is also budget accommodation available at the Royal Standard Hotel. If these are fully booked, the nearby towns of Foster, Welshpool and Port Welshpool also have caravan parks with cabins and there are motels.

Other things to do

For those of you, unfamiliar with this area, we encourage you to spend an extra day exploring the very scenic countryside. You can also drive by the wind farm that is close to the Toora Township, visit Agnes falls or perhaps just find a quiet spot to take in the incredible view of Corner Inlet and Wilson's Promontory. 2010 event

The 2010 event, I am glad to say, was considered a success! The weather was kind compared to last year when gale force winds blew down a power pole over the course.
